Project Description

Group online piano courses

Learning to play the piano in a group format is a very effective method to start learning the piano.

There are several advantages to learning in a group format such as learning from your fellow students and benefiting from aural training and in-depth musical theory (where applicable).

Groups take place online via Zoom. There are between three to five individuals per group class.

Our online piano group lessons are suitable for beginner learners and those with a little bit of experience.

Hands on the piano

Our piano lessons for adults take place weekly on a set day and time via Zoom, Skype, FaceTime or another provider of your choice. (We usually use Zoom. It is free, easy-to-use and we can record the lessons for you to re-study in the future.)

The lessons are provided for either 30, 45 or 60 minutes, and our online remote piano courses can be joined at any time during the year.

Please contact our manager Stefan at enrol@londonpianoinstitute.co.uk to select the most convenient day and time for you. We will match you with the appropriate teacher depending upon your timezone and the style of music that you want to learn!

As all our piano lessons for adults are highly personalised and tailored to the needs and wishes of each, you are welcome to decide whether you would like to sit the ABRSM or Trinity graded examinations.

We totally understand that you play the piano for your pleasure and enjoyment so this decision is totally optional.

We do not follow a set syllabus but rather adapt to each of our students as everyone is different and requires special attention.

Courses run on a rolling monthly basis. If you want to stop your course, we do require a month’s notice. You are most welcome to book an intro lesson prior to committing to a standard rolling monthly course with us.

You are also most welcome to book additional improvement or intensive lessons should you want to make faster progress or prepare for an examination or performance.

If you want to do longer weekly sessions such as 90 or 120 minutes per week, please do ask and we will do our best to arrange a course tailored to your requirements.

You need to have a digital piano/keyboard (preferably with 88 keys, but with a minimum of 61 keys) or an acoustic piano as well as a smartphone, tablet or laptop. It is really really simple and you do not need to have a lot of fancy equipment to get started.

Yes, absolutely! A smartphone works very very well. A larger screen such as a tablet or laptop is preferable, but we have found that smartphone remote piano lessons work very very well!

At a minimum as a beginner, a 61 keys keyboard will be enough to get started. (Most music stays within that range – esp. for beginners.) However, if you have a choice we would recommend weighted keys and 88 of them. Please view our recommended digital piano guide.

Yes most certainly! Learning to play the piano remotely is exactly the same as learning in person. With today’s modern equipment we can teach you all the important points of playing such as proper hand positioning, posture, how to read notation properly, timing and so much more! With group piano lessons, you get the opportunity to learn how to play the piano with others in a group format. At this stage, we only offer online group piano lessons for beginners.

During the lessons we will initially work from Carol Barratt’s ‘The Classic Piano Course – Book 1’. (You can purchase book 1 from Carol Barratt online here).

Everyone will have an opportunity to play an exercise and at that time the other participants will follow along. (We are also working on getting rid of latency as can be seen with https://www.jamkazam.com. Once we have achieved this, everyone can then play at the same time and we can play piano duets to make learning a whole lot of fun!)

Scales and chords will also be worked on, and you will get to know both classical as well as the basics of popular music (I.e. how to play chords successfully on the piano).

Learning in a group format is highly recommended if you are just starting out!

Expect high-quality piano lessons specifically designed for adult learning.

You will also receive notes with each lesson and specific homework to work on.
